Happy Independence Day from You: By Rayees Ahmad

Happy Independence Day from You: Poem from Occupied Kashmir by Rayees Ahmad

Happy Independence day to you

Not to me;

Today I became a stranger

My land is invaded & occupied

I became a homeless wanderer

You set my heavens ablaze

And Disarray my saints

Happy Independence day to you,

But, not to me,

I belong to this land Which is been soaked in blood

Unripe dreams washed away relentlessly

In the gutters of political unrest.

Happy Independence day to you

But, not to me,

I belong to this soil,

Which is been ransacked and molested

The white snow stained forever…….

And Silence of mountains saturated in pain

Happy Independence day to you

Not to me,

that In my own land, your orders echoed

In my own temple you have kept your gods.

You have stolen my verses

And chanted your own

My identity is changed, into yours.

My roots are burnt in your pride

Your promises buried in the quagmire

You want me to be captive forever

And celebrated your Independence day

Happy Independence day to you

But, not to me….not to me….not to me….!
