I am what I am not – Poem by Komal Raja

I am what I am not – Poem by Komal Raja

“I am what I am not”

I am not Lord Byron neither Pessoa nor Neruda

I am the woman of an uncommitted potential

Free of names, hypes and fames!

Nonetheless, there is this co-self within

Who desires to do

the “learned version” of ishq with you

You know, the kind, they say sapio-sexual

But let me be honest and also, own my actual

I equally have a tendency

To take, sometimes,  those “basic” Love rides

That trip  in the thoughtless mantras of

 “Good Mornings” & “Good Nights”

I meant that “cringe version” of ishq

that gets Xpressed in:

“Mele dānuñ ne thānā thāyā” type shit

I can also readily be a  “cliched” trickster

Where my heart beats on Bollywood blockbusters

You know, that “Gulzarian version” of ishq

“Surmay se likhay tere wāday,

Ãñkhoñ ki zubāni ātay haiñ”

Equitably, my heart melts on the “ishq wālā love”

Yet that’s not all as above!

Also, I can be a perfect māshūq of Urdu Ghazal

Where the fire of my “junūñ” surpasses the “aql”

And

“k kitāb aql kī tāq par juuñ dharī thī tyuuñ hī dharī rahī”

Yet, again there is this resurrection within, of the Sci-Fi Philo-Sopher

Who questions the metaphysics of love altogether

Oh! Hold on my love and seize the moment

And let me do all the versions of ishq with you

before I even forget to talk

For when in love,

Simultaneously, I am what I am not!

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Happy winters!

Best Wishes

Komal
