My friends don’t die they way as before – Poem by Mahmoud Darwish

My friends don’t die the way as before.
I beg you. Do not die. Wait another year for me.
One year.
Just one more year.
We might exchange ideas for walking on the street!
Free of funeral prayers and the war banners.
We have other things to do.
Besides looking for graves and lament for the dead.

– Mahmoud Darwish (Palestine’s National Poet)
