The Promise: English poem by Dua Kayani
I promise to build a home
where rest needs no explanation,
where no one feels smaller,
where there is no pressure to perform
and respect is never measured by status.
A place where hearts can rest,
where small things stay small
and nothing turns into a storm,
where voices are not raised
and silence is never used as a weapon.
If something breaks,
we won’t search for someone to blame
we will fix it,
together.
A home where no one doubts their worth.
Maybe I am too young for this,
but I promise to build a home
one no one ever wants to run away from.
